Curiosity is natural. The desire to explore and understand is instinctual. The quest to find out how things are, how things work and how they directly affect us motivates us to learn and grow from our earliest beginnings. But this innate sense of wanting to know the truth is often discarded by the growing individual as other worldly temptations assume greater value.

In today's world, in so many ways, how things appear to be is often of more significance than how things really are. And more and more the appearance of the truth is accepted as truth itself. What things appear to be has become how things are.

What's Going in the World is a section devoted to hard to find, unusual or challenging news, the kind that can directly call into question our preferred view of how things are or make us look at the world from a fresh and more open perspective.

From time to time, some of the external links to outside news sources may have expired. If you're interested in a story that's no longer there, email us and we'll endeavour to retrieve the article from our archives and send it on to you....
